Great Commandment Worship!
You've heard the question, "Which came first? The chicken or the egg?" Well, it is my belief that the Great Commandment comes first and drives everything else in our lives. In Matthew 22:34-40, Jesus is being questioned by religious leaders who hope to trick him on points of law.
Verse 36"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
With those two statements Jesus sums up the Ten Commandments and defines the purpose for His church. "Love God and help each other." Then, the Great Commission gives us instruction in how Jesus expects us to accomplish the Great Commandment, but it isn't going to happen if we aren't putting God first in our individual lives and the life we have together as His church body.
Putting God first is the theme of every worship service that takes place at Gashland Baptist. To paraphrase Kierkegaard, "We worship an audience of One." It is not so much about traditional or contemporary, or even cutting edge musical styles as it is that whatever we do should honor and glorify God. Here at Gashland we do that singing everything from "To God be the Glory" to "How Great Is Our God". We make a joyful noise with strings (piano & guitar), brass, drums and above all our voices led by Praise Team and Celebration Choir. If you are ever in our part of Kansas City at 10:45 on Sunday, come and lift your voice with ours as we seek to "Love God and Love You."
